Directors and Management

William started his career in international banking working for Chase Manhattan Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, ABN AMRO Bank and ANZ Banking Group in South Africa, Europe and Asia. In 2003 William returned to South Africa to start his own business in commercial property. William holds a Bachelor of Business Science degree from the University of Cape Town and completed the Asian International Executive Program at Insead Singapore in 2002. William founded Capital Land and Synergy.

Anton is a qualified Chartered Accountant and completed his articles at Deloitte & Touche Johannesburg. Prior to joining Capital Land, Anton was Managing Director of Retail Africa Asset Management. Before this, he was Managing Director and Financial Director of Fountainhead Property Trust and head of business development for Virgin Active South Africa. Anton holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) from the University of Cape Town.

Tess is a qualified Chartered Accountant and completed her articles at KPMG in Cape Town. Shortly after joining Capital Land from KPMG Tess assumed responsibility for all financial administration in respect to the assembly and listing of Synergy Income Fund on the Main Board of the JSE in 2011. Tess holds a Bachelor of Business Science (Hon) degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) from the University of Cape Town.

Inka started her career working for The Hans Merensky Foundation in the development of their local product market. After some time in Switzerland, she returned to South Africa and started her own below-the-line advertising agency in the sports sector. The family moved to Asia for several years and upon returning to South Africa in 2003, she once again started her own company splitting her time between advertising and starting a new career in property investment.

Sean is a qualified Chartered Accountant and completed his articles at Deloitte & Touche. Sean is currently the Co Head of Cash and Liquidity Solutions at the Old Mutual Group. Prior to joining the Old Mutual Group, Sean held a number positions specialising in investments including Head of Cash and Liquidity Solutions at Nedgroup Investments and Chief Investment Officer for Property at the Liberty Group. Sean was also previously on the boards of both Synergy Income Fund and Fountainhead Property Trust. Sean was with the Standard Bank Group for 15 years and founded the STANLIB listed property business which is now the largest investment manager of listed property in Africa. Sean holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) and completed the Advanced Management Programme through Oxford University in 2008.

Lindsay is responsible for all investment advisory services for Capital Land and our clients and manages the financial analysis functions for all acquisitions and disposals. Lindsay is a qualified Chartered Accountant and completed her articles at KPMG in Cape Town. Lindsay holds a Bachelor of Business Science (Hon) degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) from the University of Cape Town.

Liezl is responsible for the financial administration of a segregated institutional portfolio of Capital Land properties. Liezl is a qualified Chartered Accountant and completed her articles at Ernst & Young Cape Town. After articles, Liezl stayed on with Ernst & Young for a further two years and transferred to their assurance department offices in San Francisco and then Memphis in the United States, where she was the assistant manager on the audit of one of the largest listed REIT’s in North America. Liezl holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hon) degree from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth.

Etienne manages the operations team and is responsible for the overall operations of all assets under Capital Land’s management, including reporting, internal compliance, and risk management. Etienne has over 12 years’ experience in construction and project management. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land, Etienne held the position of Senior Project Manager at Betts Townsend Taylor where he was involved in the Bridge City Shopping Centre redevelopment project.

Bob is responsible for the operational management of retail properties in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal regions. Bob is responsible for providing support to the National Operations Manager in respect of capital and high value maintenance projects, accurate operations related reporting and adherence to procedures and controls, maintenance and lifecycle management across the portfolio and portfolio compliance. Bob is a certified Commercial and Industrial Property Specialist and has extensive experience in the building industry. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land, Bob managed the regional sales of building materials from wholesale to retail.

Johan is responsible for the operational management of retail properties in the Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, North West and Limpopo regions. Johan is responsible for providing support to the National Operations Manager in respect of capital and high value maintenance projects, accurate operations related reporting and adherence to procedures and controls, maintenance and lifecycle management across the portfolio and portfolio compliance. Johan has over 13 years experience in property management which he gained through his roles as Operations Manager at Atterbury Properties, Abreal & Sabreal Property Managers and Parkdev. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land, Johan was the branch manager for Global Cleaning Services and managed 270 staff members and key accounts including the University of Pretoria and South African Breweries.

Lerato is responsible for the operational management of retail properties in the Gauteng and Free State regions. Lerato is responsible for providing support to the National Operations Manager in respect of capital and high value maintenance projects, accurate operations related reporting and adherence to procedures and controls, maintenance and lifecycle management across the portfolio and portfolio compliance. Prior to her appointment as Sam Ntuli Mall Centre Manager in 2019, she obtained experience at call centres before moving into the facilities side of property management at Alexander Forbes. Lerato joined Capital Land in April 2023 when Sam Ntuli Mall was acquired by the Futuregrowth Community Property Fund. Lerato was appointed as a Regional Operations Manager in November 2023. Lerato holds a University of Johannesburg National Diploma in Management and a MANCOSA Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

Marina is responsible for the operational management of retail properties in the North-West and Gauteng regions. Marina started her career in the insurance industry where she was an independent assessor for over 9 years for Santam, Mutual & Federal, and Hollard. Prior to her appointment at Capital Land, Marina held a centre management position at Broll and was responsible for the management of properties in the Resilient Portfolio.

Simphiwe is responsible for the operational management of retail properties in the Mpumalanga and Gauteng regions. Simphiwe is responsible for providing support to the National Operations Manager in respect of capital and high value maintenance projects, accurate operations related reporting and adherence to procedures and controls, maintenance and lifecycle management across the portfolio and portfolio compliance. Prior to Simphiwe’s appointment at Capital Land, he was a Site Engineer for GVK-Siya Zama Construction and was the engineer on the Thulamahashe Plaza development project.

Azarian is responsible for the operational management of retail properties in the Mpumalanga regions. He is also responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Kanyamazane Centre, including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2016, Azarian held the position of Store Manager at Ackermans at Kanyamazane Centre.

Alson is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Maxwell Centre including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2015, Alson held the position of Cleaning Supervisor at Quatro Cleaning Services.

Anne is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Sontonga Mall including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Anne has over 23 years experience in the retail environment. Prior to her appointment at Capital Land in 2015, Anne was a Sales Advisor for Ellerines for over 10 years. She then went on to join Lewis Stores as a branch manager before being appointed as Sontonga Mall Centre Manager in 2009.

Annemarie is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Heidelberg Mall including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Annemarie has 14 years operations experience in retail. Prior to her appointment at Capital Land in 2012, Annemarie was a co-owner and manager of 11 franchise outlets in Gauteng. Annemarie holds an accounting diploma and facilities management diploma from the University of the Free State.

Debbie is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Murchison Mall, including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Debbie has over 26 years of property management experience and has held the position of Murchison Mall Centre Manager since 1995. Debbie joined Capital Land in 2021 when Murchison Mall was acquired by the Futuregrowth Community Property Fund.

Frank is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Thulamahashe Plaza including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2015, Frank held the position of Store Manager at Ellerines at Thulamahashe Plaza.

Hitler is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Moutse Mall including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2015, Hitler held the position of General Assistant at SJM Investment and Property based in Johannesburg.

Joseph is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Gateway Mall including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Joseph has over 15 years experience in property management. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2015, Joseph was a Property Manager for Hermans and Romans before being appointed as Gateway Mall Centre Manager in 2007.

Lydia is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Setsing IV Centre including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Prior to her appointment at Capital Land in 2015, Lydia held the position of Office Manager at Rannus Trading before being appointed as Setsing IV Centre Manager in 2011.

Mary-Jane is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of The Crossing Shopping Centre including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Mary-Jane has over seventeen years of experience as a Store Manager at Milady's. Prior to her appointment at Capital Land in 2023, she held the position of a retail cleaning supervisor.

Mbalenhle is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Eyethu Orange Farm Mall including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Prior to her reappointment at Capital Land in 2024, Mbalenhle held the position of a Facilities Manager at South Point.

Mzo is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Motherwell Shopping Centre including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2015, Mzo held the position of Security Operations Manager at Grinell Security Services based in Cape Town.

Nothando is responsible for the oversight of operational aspects of Nkomazi Plaza and Kamaqhekeza Plaza including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, tenant installations and administration. Nothando has practical work experience in operations inspections at a power station, and administration and team management experience working on projects for a service provider to the agricultural sector in Mpumalanga. Nothando holds a Diploma in Management Services and a B.Tech in Quality from the University of Johannesburg.

Piegee is responsible for the oversight of operational aspects of KG Mall including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, tenant installations and administration. Prior to his appointment as KG Mall Centre Manager in 2014, Piegee held the position of Store Manager at Verimak in Witbank. Piegee joined Capital Land in 2023 when KG Mall was acquired by the Futuregrowth Community Property Fund.

Sibusiso is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of King Senzangakhona Shopping Centre, including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2021, Sibusiso was a Security Contract Manager for Excellerate Security Services at Futuregrowth Community Property Fund’s Bridge City Shopping Centre.

Sizwe is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Alexandra Plaza, including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Sizwe has extensive experience in property management and prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2014, he worked for Advent Asset Management and the Public Investment Corporation.

Trevor is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Bridge City Shopping Centre, including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Trevor has extensive facilities and centre management experience. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2021, Trevor managed the operations of KFC stores for True Blue Foods as well as retail and commercial assets for Bentel Group and Excellerate JHI.

Wellington is responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Kuyasa Centre including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with head office in relation to tenants, tenant installations and administration. Prior to his appointment at Capital Land in 2015, Wellington held the position of Branch Manager at Midas in Mdantsane.

Joy is a qualified Attorney, Conveyancer and Notary who started her career in law in commercial litigation. She completed her articles at STBB Cape Town and went on to join STBB’s Property Law Division as a practicing attorney, specializing in all aspects of property law. She joined Capital Land in 2012 and held the position of Legal and Compliance Manager for five years before establishing Mapenzi Capital, a specialist retail property consultancy. Joy is a passionate property professional who thrives on finding commercial solutions to legal problems. Joy rejoined Capital Land in July 2023.

Carla is responsible for the management of legal arrears as well as handling operational, contractual and compliance related legal work for Capital Land and our clients. Carla holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of the Western Cape. Carla is an admitted attorney of the High Court with a background in litigation and has completed Conveyancing and Notarial Practice courses through the Law Society of South Africa.

Diana is responsible for leasing sales and the management of tenant relationships for Capital Land and our clients. She started her career at Shaer and Associates, a Cape Town based law firm specialising in property law. Prior to her appointment at Capital Land in May 2011, Diana worked as a paralegal for Smith Tabata Buchanan Boyes Attorneys. Diana holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Town with majors in law and economics.

Janine has over eight years experience in leasing which she gained through leasing positions held at Eris Property Group, Old Mutual, Fairvest Property Holdings and Camstone Asset Managers.

Michael is responsible for lease renewals and the management of tenant relationships for Capital Land and our clients. Michael is qualified in Building Surveying having graduated with a Diploma in Surveying Practice from the University College of Estate Management in Reading, England and he also holds a National Diploma in Real Estate (Property Valuation). Prior to his appointment at Capital Land he worked at David Newham Property Group and at Hermans and Roman Property Solutions where he specialised in the leasing of industrial, retail and commercial office space. Michael has 18 years’ experience in the leasing field.

Robyn manages all media and promotions, marketing functions and the implementation of all CSI programmes for Capital Land and our clients. Prior to her appointment at Capital Land in September 2011, she worked for a Cape Town based leisure group where she gained valuable experience in marketing and communications. Robyn holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) degree from the University of Cape Town.
