The redevelopment of the Community Property Fund owned Motherwell Shopping Centre has transformed the centre from a modest unenclosed centre to a modern centre with an extensive quality retail offering.
Motherwell township is located approximately 25kms north of Port Elizabeth and has an estimated 46 000 households. The redevelopment of Motherwell Shopping Centre has provided the community with access to a diversified, expanded and quality retail offering and has eliminated the need to commute to Port Elizabeth for certain products.
The project managed by Capital Land Asset Management and professional team BFH de Jager Project Managers, SVA Architects, LDM Quantity Surveyors and Sutherland Engineers has expanded the centre from a 11 126m2 convenience centre to a 17 587m2 partly enclosed community centre. The redevelopment project commenced in July 2019 and took place in two phases which included the addition of two anchor tenants Boxer and Cashbuild to triple anchor the centre with Shoprite, a KFC Drive-Thru, and the addition of 17 line shops which include national tenants Pep, Ackermans, African Bank, Power Fashion, Clicks and Mr Price.
The redevelopment has positively contributed to the Motherwell community through increased economic activity and the project has employed a total of 495 people of which 45% of skilled and unskilled labour was from the Motherwell community.
